The Story behind the Name

  • Why did you name your pet the way you did?
Was their name something that came along with the pet, or was it named after someone you like/dislike?

My cat William was named after William Beckett of The Academy Is...
When I first brought him home, he was very wild and was biting everybody. His teeth were sharp like million tiny needles, and somehow it reminded me of William Beckett being a vampire.
  • At my mother's house: I named my cat Oreo because his belly and his back have black fur, but there's a strip of white between it. Topaz was named for his orange skin, like orange topaz. Isabelle is after Isabella Rossalini, my mother's favorite actress. Hogan is a combination of my last name with my sibling's last names. Charlie was named because, when he was born, the "Charlie Bit Me" video was getting popular. Madeline was named because everyone agreed that she was insane, so we call her Mad Kitty. Fenway was named because we used money intended to go to Fenway Park to get her, instead.

At my dad's house: Gus was named for his mad skills, like Jaques Gusto. Moulder was named after a television character. I'm not sure where Impy got her name, but I do know that she is an Impopotamus.

I have a lot of animals.
  • My dog's name was originally Jermak. But my brother wanted to change it, though it's not a good idea apparently (the people at the shelter said so). He said that it'd be a new beginning for him (as he was beaten by his 2 previous "owners"), and we thought it'd actually be a good idea. And my brother, who was fan of Largo Winch, decided to name it Largo. THAT simple!

As for my brand new chinchilla, Pamuk, I had decided 6 months ago, when I lived in Croatia, that I'd name my next pet like that (as I already knew that I'd get a chinchilla). "Pamuk" means "cotton" in croatian and I thought of it everyday, in the bathroom, when I saw my cotton hanging from the cabinet lol I like the way that word sounds - all roundish and soft... like cotton... like my chinchilla :D
  • When I was getting Watson, I had to wait a few weeks before I could have him (he was still drinking his mother's milk - but she ended up stopping really early), and I had awhile to think of a name. I went to go see the Sherlock Holmes movie and totally fell in love with the Sherlock Holmes canon, afterwards, and I was like "I'll be Holmes, and doggie, you're gonna be my best dude Watson" and that's how it was xD Rhoadie was named after Randy Rhoads. We didn't name Cookie, her previous owners did.
  • I called my dog Jequay (pronounced 'Jackie) because my family name is 'Chen' so his name would be Jequay Chen, and I changed the spelling of 'Jackie' to make it more interesting.
  • My dog, Dasher was named Dasher because he was born on December. We were going through all of the names of the reindeers until we got to "Dasher" and thought... it fits.
  • Oh and I named a puppy Billie because I loved the name Billie I thought it suited him. I was going to have the puppy but instead someone else got him and kept the name.
  • Everybody asks me if my dogs are named after kids tv characters. I've got Sooty (from sooty and sweep) and Milo (from the Tweenies) but nope!
Sooty was named after my dad's childhood dog and Milo.. well I honestly don't know where I got that from.. but it suits him :)
  • i named my cat elmo because he likes to kill "big birds"
  • I named my Cat midnight after a stuft animal my Grandfather gave to me.He had passed away the previous year. But we call her Kitty Kitty because it was so much easier lol.
Agro is named after Steve Irwin's croc. Although Agro is the sweetest and he's so mellow.
Chesterbacca was named because we have a tradition of naming our chameleons after starwars characters. But my mom wanted to name him Chester( after chester bennington of linkin Park). SHe couldn't make up her mind so i combined the two and wala.
Vader was named after darth vader.
Indy was named after Indiana Jones.
And Short Round was named after short round from indiana jones
    :)
