Beavers Dam Noticed From Space

The largest dam built by beaversYou thought that the only work of man visible to the human eye from the Moon was the Great Wall of China? Well, that's right. Man aside, the world has got something else reportedly visible from space - the longest dam built by Canadian beavers.

It's situated in Wood Buffalo National Park in Northern Alberta and it stretches more than 850 meters in length; it's twice the size of the Hoover dam in the USA which, until now, was the largest dam.

"Beavers build dams to create a good habitat. They create a habitat with lots of water like a moat around their lodges so they can swim and drive and keep one step ahead of predators such as coyotes and bears. This dam is particularly big," said Sharon Brown, a biologist.

Experts believe that the largest dam was built by a several beaver families and it took months and months to complete it.
