A 10-year old female penguin named Kelli was stolen from Dublin Zoo yesterday. She is a Humboldt, a small breed of native to parts of South America, namely Chile.
A gang of men broke into the zoo at around 8am, stole the penquin and then took off in a taxi. Fortunately the zoo fits all their animals with microchips, so gardaĆ were able to track the penquin down.
The penquin was found a few miles away in the north inner city a few hours later. She was safely returned to her enclosure, and the zoo has stated that she was not harmed. They have also voiced their annoyance over the incident, and has made it clear that it was not amusing.
